Part 2 in the virtual series on affordable housing hosted by the Marin County Free Library: Demystifying Affordable Housing Through A Racial Justice Lens; Part 2: How Did Marin County Get to be So White?
Finding affordable housing in Marin County is difficult for everyone. But for Black, Brown, Indigenous people and Immigrants who intersect these identities, the quest to obtain affordable housing comes with additional pitfalls that are rooted in our county's (and our country's) history. How did this reality come to be and what are the unseen factors contributing to this crisis? In this series, Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Marin and Marin County Free Libraries are teaming up to explore our difficult history with race and housing by looking at the issues in front of us, the history behind them, and possible solutions to this growing problem all through the lens of Social Justice.
In our second program in the series: "How Did Marin County Get to be So White?" we will explore the unique governmental decisions and events that ensured that People of Color would be locked out of opportunities for home ownership and wealth in our county. Together we will explore films that address this topic and hear from speakers who are working to make Marin a place that everyone can call home.
