Please join us on Thursday, Sept. 8th, at 6:00 pm when Indivisible Sonoma County welcomes Christy Smith, the Democratic candidate running to unseat Mike Garcia in the newly reconfigured CA-27 Congressional district.
Christy came within 333 votes of flipping the district back from Republican Mike Garcia in 2020. A former State Assembly member, she has a background in educational policy, working with the Department of Education and later serving as a governing school board member. She is taking strong, progressive positions on education, healthcare, climate, and more that stand in stark contrast to her opponent Garcia, who recently compared the FBI search for stolen classified documents at Mar-A-Lago to the “tyranny [of the] Third Reich”. Garcia also voted overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The new district boundaries have made CA-27 more favorable to Smith than in 2020, when she lost by a hair. She now has an 11-point Democratic voter advantage and the Cook Political Report rates the race a toss-up.
